Chargers top Sweet Briar in Vixens' first road game

LANCASTER, Pa. — The Sweet Briar field hockey team put four shots on frame, but were not able to find the back of the goal on Friday afternoon at Donald H. Funk Field as the Vixens fell 2-0 to host Lancaster Bible.

The Chargers (1-2) looked to score early, forcing Sweet Briar (0-3) junior Rosemary Austin (Commerce Township, Mich.) to make a save in the second minute of action. Austin's second save came in the 18th minute, helping to take a 0-0 score into the halftime break.

The return to action in the second half saw Lancaster Bible change the score line within the first minute, as Brooke Sareyka jumped on a deflected ball and scored the first goal of the day.

Goal number two came for Lancaster Bible in the 36th minute when Mariah Romig and Macy Palmer played a quick pass that led to a pass to Nina Statuti, who found the back of the net to take the score line to 2-0.

Austin was called into action twice more in the third period, making two saves in the 40th minute.

Junior Alexis Jones (Suffolk, Va.) forced Lancaster Bible's Chloe Campbell to make her first save of the day in the 42nd minute, which was quickly followed by a shot on goal from first-year Ingrid Kalwitz Blanco (Antofagasta, Chile).

Sweet Briar's attacked continued in the 44th as Jones saw another shot turned away by Campbell. The final shot on goal in the game came in the 58th minute when Campbell made a save on a shot by first-year Colleen Goodly (Yorktown, Va.).

Jones finished the day with four shots, placing two on frame, while Goodly and Kalwitz Blanco both took two shots and put one on frame each.

The Vixens return north on September 14, visiting Hackettstown, N.J. for an 11 a.m. meeting with Centenary (N.J.).
