Christendom edges Sweet Briar 1-0

Box Score FRONT ROYAL, Va. — Sweet Briar goalkeepers combined for 16 saves on Saturday afternoon at Crusader Field, as the Vixens dropped a 1-0 road decision to host Christendom.

"I'm extremely proud of this group for the growth we are seeing," said head coach Jason Capps. "Even just from our last match to today, the aggression and the determination was very high and to do so while in a shorthanded situation was a testament to who we are as a team.

Christendom broke through in the 40th minute as Christine McLaughlin scored off an assist from Anna Solitario.

"I can't compliment our backline and goalkeeper enough for their adjustments and growth this season and for playing a solid game today," Capps added.

The Vixens (0-3) battled in the second half, fending off 14 shots from the Crusaders to keep the score line at 1-0 during the final 45 minutes of regulation.

On the offensive end, Sweet Briar finished the day with a pair of shots as first-year Olivia Peete (Oakton, Va.) and senior Lacey Tucker (Swansboro, N.C.) both threatened with scoring chances.

Sweet Briar returns home on Wednesday, September 11, for a 4:30 p.m. kickoff against Salem.
