AMHERST, Va. — Sophomore Kaylah Bailey recorded a four-goal afternoon and senior Victoria Lawson finished with three goals and three assists in the Vixens' 18-12 loss to William Peace at Amherst County High School on Saturday.
The Vixens (0-3) opened the scoring less than three minutes after the opening draw, as senior K. Mullins (Richmond, Va.) put Sweet Briar up 1-0.
William Peace's Allison Schaper answered less than two minutes later as the two sides traded goals for much of the opening period.
Lawson (Shipman, Va.) tallied two goals over the opening 30 minutes, while Bailey (Virginia Beach, Va.) and Mullins both scored a pair of goals in the first half.
Schaper finished the opening frame with six of the Pacers' eight first-half goals, as William Peace took an 8-6 lead into halftime.
William Peace finished the opening half on a four-goal streak, before scoring twice to open the second period.
First-year Zerah Chase (Virginia Beach, Va.) broke the drought three minutes into the second half off an assist from Lawson to pull the scoreline to 10-7 in the Pacers' advantage.
Following a Pacers goal, senior Rosa Bello (Baltimore, Md.) scored her first goal of the season, but William Peace answered with three-straight goals. The Pacers' three-straight goals included the would-be game-winner as Rylie Toomey gave the Pacers a 13-8 lead with 24:08 to go.
The Vixens scored three-in-a-row over one minute, with goals from Bailey, Chase and Lawson, while Bailey would net the Vixens' final goal of the day at 2:32.
Amber Griffin scored with 48 seconds left to tilt the final scoreline 18-12 before regulation came to a close.
Bailey finished the day with four goals, three ground balls, five draw controls and five caused turnovers.
Lawson recorded three goals, three assists and five draw controls, while Mullins and Chase both finished with a pair of goals.
Junior Madison Harpham (Monroe, Va.) led the Vixens with four ground balls, while senior Corey Lamas caused four turnovers on the day.
In her goalkeeping debut, junior Sydney Campbell (Amherst, Va.) recorded eight saves and caused one turnover.
William Peace's Schaper led all scorers with 10 goals.
Sweet Briar is scheduled to play host to Ferrum on Tuesday with a 4 p.m. scheduled first-draw at the Sweet Briar Lacrosse Field.
