HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. — The Rhodes Lynx showed why they are ranked No. 10 in the Atlantic South Region as they topped the Vixens 9-0 in Sweet Briar's second match of PTR Spring TennisFest at the Evian Tennis Center on Tuesday morning.
The Lynx (3-3) took a 3-0 lead over Sweet Briar (3-2) after doubles play, which saw the No. 1 spot finish with the closest final score as sophomore Ruth de Souza (Marilia, Brazil) and senior Emily Wandling (Mechanicsville, Va.) dropped an 8-6 match after clawing back from an early 6-1 deficit.
Senior Lacey Tucker (Swansboro, N.C.) was the lone Vixen to win a set on Tuesday, taking a 6-2 opening set from Caroline Yarbrough at No. 5 singles. Yarbrough would win the second set before edging Tucker in the third-set tiebreaker to help Rhodes secure the 9-0 victory over the Vixens.
Sweet Briar is slated to play Webster on Thursday morning at the Evian Tennis Center, with the first serve scheduled for 9 a.m.
