HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. — The Sweet Briar tennis program bounced back from a loss on Tuesday with an impressive 7-2 victory on Thursday against Webster (Mo.) Gorloks at the Evian Tennis Center, as part of PTR Spring TennisFest.
The Vixens (4-2) opened the day with an 8-0 win at No. 2 doubles by first-years Allison Wandling (Mechanicsville, Va.) and Kate Kotany (Erd, Hungary) over (6-6) Alyssa Tourville and Emma Ferguson.
No. 1 doubles followed with an 8-3 victory by first-year Ruth de Souza (Marilia, Brazil) and senior Emily Wandling (Mechanicsville, Va.).
Leading 2-1 after doubles, the Vixens opened singles play with impressive 6-1, 6-0 victories at No. 4 and No. 2 singles by Kotany and Allison Wandling, respectively.
It was de Souza at No. 1 singles, who would clinch victory for the Vixens with a 7-5, 6-2 win over Brezovar.
Emily Wandling earned a dominant 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 3, while senior Lacey Tucker fought back from a first-set loss to win in three sets (6-7 [4-7], 6-4, 1-0 [10-7]) at No. 6 singles.
The Vixens wrap-up Spring TennisFest on Friday afternoon with a 4 p.m. opening serve scheduled at the Evian Tennis Center against NCAA Division II side - Albany State.
