Sweet Briar topples Gordon at Spring TennisFest

HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. — In the first recorded meeting between Gordon and Sweet Briar, the Vixens did not drop a single game in the top-three singles spots in a 6-3 win over the Fighting Scots at the Hilton Head Island Beach and Tennis Resort on Friday morning.

Sweet Briar (5-2) opened the morning with No. 1 doubles pair of first-year Ruth de Souza (Marilia, Brazil) and senior Emily Wandling (Mechanicsville, Va.) easing to an 8-1 win, while first-years Kate Kotany (Erd, Hungary) and Allison Wandling (Mechanicsville, Va.) won by a matching 8-1 score at No. 2 doubles.

Singles play got underway with de Souza picking up the 6-0, 6-0 win over Anne Carsey at No. 1 singles.

No. 3 singles saw Emily Wandling pick up the 49th singles victory of her collegiate career, easing to a 6-0, 6-0 win over Laura Caron.

The team victory was clinched at No. 4 singles as Kotany won 6-1, 6-1 to earn her 12th victory of the season.

Allison Wandling also earned her 12th win of the season with a 6-0, 6-0 sin over Madison West at No. 2 singles.

Sweet Briar is scheduled to wrap-up PTR Spring TennisFest on Sunday morning with a 10 a.m. first-serve against Wooster.
