HARRISONBURG, Va. – Sweet Briar field hockey (6-2, 2-1 CSAC) came up short against the Eastern Mennonite Royals (7-2, 0-0 ODAC) on Friday night, falling by a score of 2-0.
 
It was a tight match from the very beginning, with both teams battling for possession and shots on goal. Sweet Briar held their own, keeping the game scoreless through the first 30 minutes of play.
 
However, Eastern Mennonite would get on the scoresheet twice in the third quarter, scoring both goals only a few minutes apart to go up 2-0.
 
Holding the Royals scoreless in the fourth quarter, a goal by the Vixens that would be disallowed added to their momentum, but the game came to an eventual 2-0 close.

• First-year goalkeeper Ashley Maggiora (Hollister, Calif.) kept the Vixens in the game with a four saves.

Sweet Briar will take a day off before heading to Lancaster Bible on Oct. 3 for a 2 p.m. start time.
