Field Hockey Taken Down by Cedar Crest

ALLENTOWN, Pa. – In a battle of the Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) women's colleges, Sweet Briar field hockey (8-5, 3-2 CSAC) was bested by the Cedar Crest Falcons (5-7, 3-2 CSAC) 4-2.

In the first quarter, senior goalkeeper Janie Bolling (Hereford, Md.) made three saves to lead play to a 0-0 tie going into the second.

However, the Falcons wouldn't stay off the board for long with a penalty stroke goal six minutes into the second quarter. Another Cedar Crest goal five minutes later would give them the 2-0 lead. That lead would be cut in half by first-year Lara Jost (Würzburg, Germany), who would score following a penalty corner.

With the lone goal in the third quarter and the score at 3-2, the Falcons had their two-goal lead back. First-year Kailey McCarthy (Atkinson, N.H.) tallied her third goal of the season to once again cut into Cedar Crest's lead, but the Falcons would take advantage of an empty net for Sweet Briar to end the game at 4-2.

Highlights
  • Jost's fifth goal of the season puts her in a tie for fourth place on the team in goals this season.
  • Two goals marks the smallest margin of victory that Cedar Crest has ever had against Sweet Briar.
