Buena Vista, Va. – Sweet Briar field hockey (12-6, 3-3 CSAC) completed the season sweep over Southern Virginia (0-11), taking down the Knights by a score of 6-0.
The Vixens' 12th win this season marks the winningest season since 2000, when the program posted a 14-6 record.
Coming off a five-goal game on Sunday, senior
Brigitte Gorman (Chesapeake, Va.) picked up right where she left off, getting Sweet Briar on the board six minutes into the first quarter.
Gorman's goal was followed closely by one from sophomore
Brynna Hughes (Richmond, Va.) who beat the Southern Virginia goalkeeper only three minutes later.
The Vixens' two second quarter goals would come from sophomore
Avery Jones (Union, Conn.). The midfielder needed less than a minute to increase Sweet Briar's 3-0 lead to 4-0.
In the third quarter, Hughes would find junior
Colleen Goodly (Yorktown, Va.) before going on to tally her second of night in the fourth quarter to finalize the Vixens' 6-0 victory.
All three goal keepers saw action for the second-straight match with senior
Janie Bolling (Hereford, Md.) getting the start followed by turns in net for first-years
Trina Kinnevy (West Creek, N.J.)
Ashley Maggiora (Hollister, Calif.).
Highlights
- Hughes and Jones remain tied for most goals on the team with 13 each, however, Hughes leads in total points with 34.
- Sweet Briar has shut out opponents in seven games this season.
