ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. — A trio of Vixens found the back of the net on Saturday afternoon as Sweet Briar fell 14-3 on the road against North Carolina Wesleyan.
The Battling Bishops (1-0) opened the scoring less than one minute into the game when Blaire Harley scored with 29:35 left in the opening half.
Sweet Briar (0-3) tallied its first goal of the game with 9:40 left in the opening half when sophomore Kaylah Bailey (Virginia Beach, Va.) scored off a free position to cut the North Carolina Wesleyan lead to 7-1. The Battling Bishops struck once more before halftime to take an 8-1 lead into the break.
Following a North Carolina Wesleyan goal to open the second period, sophomore Zerah Chase (Virginia Beach, Va.) scored to take the scoreline to 9-2 in the Battling Bishops' favor.
North Carolina Wesleyan took the lead to 13-2 before first-year Sarah Southard (Culpeper, Va.) struck for the second goal of her career with 10 minutes left in regulation.
The Battling Bishops found the back of the net once more before time expired.
Senior Madison Harpham (Monroe, Va.) picked up three ground balls for Sweet Briar, while four Vixens caused one turnover each, and five finished with one draw control each.
In goal, first-year Kat Navarro (Carlsbad, Calif.) finished the day with six saves.
The Vixens are set to return home for a March 2 meeting with Randolph at 4 p.m.
