SWEET BRIAR, Va. — On Senior Day, the Sweet Briar tennis team coasted to a 9-0 victory over Hollins at the Dennis Van Der Meer Tennis Center on Friday afternoon.
Playing with mixed-up doubles lineups, Sweet Briar (8-3) took all three doubles matches 8-0, led by the No. 1 pairing of junior Alexia Alfaro (Laredo, Texas) and first-year Isabela Guilarte (Barquisimeto, Venezuela).
Friday's match saw sophomore Ruth de Souza (Marilia, Brazil) and senior Ruth Lechner (Baltimore, Md.) at No. 2 and sophomore Kate Kotany (Erd, Hungary) and senior My-Xuan Hillengas (Oak Park, Ill.) at No. 3 doubles.
Individual action saw the Vixens' traditional lineup, as Wandling picked up the first victory with a 6-0 first-set victory before Amanda Dobert was forced to retire, with Wandling up in the second set.
Guilarte clinched Sweet Briar's team victory with a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 4 over Isabelle Ingwerson.
Sweet Briar earned 6-0, 6-0 victories in five singles matches, with de Souza blanking her opponent at No. 1, Kotany doing so at No. 3, and Alfaro shutting out Emily Jones at No. 4.
Lechner earned a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Jessica Raye Alexander at No. 6 singles.
Sweet Briar recognized Lechner and Hillengas before Friday's match.
The Vixens travel to Lexington, Va. on Saturday, March 27, for a 1 p.m. meeting with the No. 18 Washington and Lee Generals
