EMORY, Va. — First-year Isabela Guilarte secured Sweet Briar's first season with double-digit wins in 10 years as the Vixens swept Emory and Henry 9-0 at the Richardson Tennis Courts.
The Vixens (10-5, 5-2 ODAC) started. the day with a sweep of doubles starting with an 8-2 win at No. 1 by sophomores Ruth de Souza (Marilia, Brazil) and Allison Wandling (Mechanicsville, Va.).
Guilarte (Barquisimeto, Venezuela) and sophomore Kate Kotany (Erd, Hungary) earned an 8-7 (7-2) win over the Wasps' (5-4, 3-4 ODAC) No. 2. pair, while senior Ruth Lechner (Baltimore, Md.) and junior Alexia Alfaro (Laredo, Texas) secured the doubles sweep with an 8-6 win at No. 3.
Singles action opened with a pair of 6-0, 6-0 victories with de Souza topping Payton Holt at No. 1 and Guilarte knocking off Callie Pollard at No. 4.
Alfaro earned the Vixens' sixth team point with a 6-2, 6-0 win at No. 5, while Lechner picked up a 6-4, 6-2 win at No. 6.
Wandling toppled Tess Flanigan 6-1, 6-2 at No. 2 singles before Kotany fought for a 6-4, 6-7 (4-7), 1-0 (10-4) win at No. 3.
The Vixens are set to step out of ODAC play on April 15, with a 3 p.m. opening serve on the road against Averett.
