SWEET BRIAR, Va. – Sweet Briar field hockey (6-1, 2-1 CSAC) proved its dominance over the Southern Virginia Knights (0-8, 0-0 USA South) coming away with a 10-0 victory.
Sophomore
Brynna Hughes (Richmond, Va.) got the momentum started for the Vixens, giving them the 1-0 lead with only a little over four minutes gone in the first quarter. Six minutes, later senior
Brigitte Gorman (Chesapeake, Va.) would find junior
Colleen Goodly (Yorktown, Va.) to increase Sweet Briar's lead to two. The 3-0 goal from first-year
Lara Jost (Würzburg, Germany) would close out the first quarter.
In the second quarter of play, Hughes would net her second of four total goals on the night for the 4-0 Vixens lead. First-year
Nina Lucia (Virginia Beach, Va.) beat the Knights goalkeeper for the first goal of her Vixens career, putting Sweet Briar up 5-0 at the half.
The Vixens came out flying in the second half, with Hughes finding the back of the goal only 29 seconds into the third quarter. A pair of goals by first-year
Jolin Daughety (Williamsburg, Va.) would mark the end of the third and the start of fourth quarter play.
Hughes would go on to score her fourth goal of the nights while Goodly tallied her second to end the game at a 10-0 victory for Sweet Briar.
