CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. – Sweet Briar field hockey (1-1, 1-1 CSAC) dropped a closely contested 3-2 game to Wilson College (2-0, 1-0 CSAC) on Sunday.
Both teams were held scoreless through most of the first half of the game, until a late second-quarter goal by the Phoenix gave them the 1-0 lead. Eight of senior
Janie Bolling's (Hereford, Md.) 11 total saves came through the first two quarters.
Sweet Briar would respond to Wilson's late second-quarter goal with one of its own only a minute and half into the third thanks to sophomore
Brynna Hughes (Richmond, Va.). First-year
Kailey McCarthy (Atkinson, N.H.) tallied her first goal in a Vixens uniform in the third quarter to once again tie things up, this time at 2-2.
However, Wilson would respond to put them out into the lead for the third time, and a scoreless fourth quarter for both sides ended play at a 3-2 victory for the Phoenix.
