FERRUM, Va. – Sweet Briar field hockey (2-1, 1-0 CSAC) handedly took down the Ferrum Panthers (2-1, -0-0 ODAC) 5-0 on Wednesday to hand Ferrum its first loss of the season.
After a scoreless first quarter, sophomore
Brynna Hughes (Richmond, Va.) got the Vixens on the board in the second. Less than a minute later, Hughes would tally her second goal of the night off an assist from junior
Colleen Goodly (Yorktown, Va.).
A little over 20 minutes into the game, Hughes set up sophomore
Avery Jones (Union, Conn.) to give Sweet Briar the 3-0 lead. Not done putting her name on the scoresheet, Hughes put the Vixens up 4-0 with the help of first-year
Molly Booth (Orono, Maine).
Senior
Brigitte Gorman (Chesapeake, Va.) beat the Ferrum goalkeeper in the third quarter for the only goal of the second half, giving Sweet Briar the eventual 5-0 victory.
