Field Hockey Earns 4-0 Routing Over Southern Virginia

BUENA VISTA, Va. – Sweet Briar field hockey (5-7, 0-2 CSAC) remained perfect against Southern Virginia (1-9) after the team's 4-0 win against the Knights last night.

The Vixens got on the board first with a goal from junior Brynna Hughes (Richmond, Va.) to lead 1-0 after the first.

A scoreless second quarter ensured that Sweet Briar kept its one-goal lead entering the half.

Junior Avery Jones (Union, Conn.) tallied her seventh of the season at the 44:44 mark for the 2-0 lead.

First-year Carlina Christy (Denver, Pa.) increased the lead to three off a pass from Hughes in the fourth quarter of play. The pair connected again with a little over five minutes remaining to bring the game to its 4-0 close.

Defensively, sophomore goalkeeper Ashley Maggiora (Hollister, Calif.) recorded two saves.
