SWEET BRIAR, Va. – Sweet Briar tennis (8-2, 2-1 ODAC) came out on top against both Bridgewater (5-4, 0-3 ODAC) and Bluefield (0-5, 0-3 AAC) at the Van Der Meer Tennis Center today by scores of 9-0 and 8-1, respectively.
 
The Vixens started the doubleheader off well, with doubles victories from de Souza/Wandling, Caro/Simhambhatla and Andrade/Patino to take the early 3-0 lead.
 
In singles play, both junior Kate Kotany (Erd, Hungary) and sophomore Isabela Guilarte (Barquisimeto, Venezuela) took down their Eagles opponents, 6-1, 6-0. Junior Ruth de Souza (Marilia, Brazil) defeated Malena Hoover, 6-1, 6-1, while senior Alexia Alfaro (Laredo, Texas) reigned victorious over Kaci Pitsenbarger, 6-2, 6-0.
 
Junior Sofia Andrade (Latacunga, Ecuador) clinched the match for Sweet Briar with a 6-1, 6-2 win over Emma Nesselrodt in the No. 3 spot.
 
Against Bluefield, de Souza paired up with first-year Ana Patino (Medellín, Colombia) to win the only doubles match played by a score of 8-0.
 
Guilarte nabbed the lone singles win for the Vixens with a straight-set victory over Katharina Zausek.
 
Bluefield forfeited both doubles matches and three singles matches, while the No. 2 singles match played by junior Allison Wandling (Mechanicsville, Va.) went unfinished.
 
Highlights

• Alfaro moves to 3-0 on the season after her victory today against Bridgewater.
• The doubles team of Caro/Simhambhatla also remains undefeated with a 3-0 record.
• Guilarte posted her second straight-set victory of the season after earning one against Ferrum at the end of February.
