Lacrosse Topples EMU, 6-4

HARRISONBURG, Va. – Sweet Briar lacrosse (3-2, 0-0 CSCAC) reigned victorious against Eastern Mennonite (0-3, 0-0 ODAC), toppling the Royals by a score of 6-4.

The Vixens got on the board first in the closely contested match thanks to a goal from junior Kaylah Bailey (Virginia Beach, Va.) with less than five minutes remaining in the first quarter.

Sweet Briar worked hard to widen the gap with the Royals in the second quarter, scoring three goals and blanking EMU to take the 4-0 lead. Sophomore Sarah Southard (Culpeper, Va.) contributed on two of the three goals while first-year Valen Foster (Bushwood, Md.) scored the other.

The Royals mounted a comeback in the third with two goals, however, Southard's hattrick and an additional goal from junior Zerah Chase (Virginia Beach, Va.) ensured the eventual victory.

Sophomore goalkeeper Kat Navarro (Carlsbad, Calif.) registered seven saves and first-year Kaitlyn Burns (Moneta, Va.) tallied six caused turnovers to power the Vixens' defense.
