LYNCHBURG/BUENA VISTA, Va. – Sweet Briar tennis (12-2, 4-1 ODAC) handed Lynchburg (9-1, 3-1 ODAC) its first loss of the season before taking down Southern Virginia (2-1, 0-0 USA South) in a doubleheader today.
The Vixens got out to a 2-0 lead following doubles play thanks to victories from de Souza/Wandling and Guilarte/Andrade.
In singles action, first-year
Ana Patino (Medellín, Colombia) was the first to wrap up her match with a 6-1, 6-3 victory over Lauren Pascadlo in the No. 2 spot. Patino was followed shortly by junior
Allison Wandling (Mechanicsville, Va.) who took down Alissa Anderson, 6-2, 6-2.
Junior
Kate Kotany (Erd, Hungary) clinched the victory for Sweet Briar with a three-set, 0-6, 6-0, 6-1 win in the No. 5 singles position.
The first match of the day wrapped up with senior
Alexia Alfaro's (Laredo, Texas) 6-2, 6-1 win over Grace Teefey.
Against Southern Virginia, the pairing of de Souza/Wandling earned their second doubles victory of the day with an 8-2 win. Guilarte also captured the win, this time with Patino, 8-1, over Sewell/Bean.
Rounding out the three-point sweep for the Vixens was Caro/Simhambhatla who took down Arnold/Bueler by a score of 8-7.
Patino, Wandling and Kotany went 2-0 on the day in singles play by winning their matches by scores of 6-1, 6-2, 6-1, 6-1 and 6-4, 2-6, 8-0, respectively.
Also earning singles victories in Buena Vista was junior
Sofia Andrade (Latacunga, Ecuador) who defeated A. Shetsselarr, 6-1, 6-2 and sophomore
Isabela Guilarte (Barquisimeto, Venezuela) who won over Morgan Bean, 6-2, 6-0.
