NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – Sweet Briar tennis (12-3, 4-1 ODAC) fell to No. 28 Christopher Newport (4-5, 0-0 C2C) today in Newport News, 8-1.
In doubles play, the Vixens fell behind 3-0 after tough matches, including one at the No. 1 doubles spot which saw the No. 13 regionally ranked pairing of de Souza/Wandling fall to the No. 4 ranked team of Trate/Weis.
In singles play, junior
Ruth de Souza (Marilia, Brazil), recently ranked No. 19 in the region, took both sets to tiebreakers in her loss to No. 16 Tessa Trate. First-year
Ana Patino (Medellín, Colombia) also played a tough match, facing off against No. 10 Raine Weis.
Junior
Kate Kotany (Erd, Hungary) brought the action to a third-set tiebreak after falling 3-6 in the first set and coming back to win the second, 7-6 (7-1). However, Kotany we would be overcome by Karina Crivtonencu in the closely-contested tiebreak, 8-10.

Allison Wandling (Mechanicsville, Va.) secured the lone victory for Sweet Briar with a 6-4, 6-3 win over Anna Campbell in the No. 4 singles position.

- The Vixens recently ranked No. 12 in the region by the ITA, played their closest match against the Captains to date, a team that is ranked No. 28 nationally and No. 8 in the region.
- Wandling has not lost a singles match since her three-set loss in the team's 8-1 loss to Berry earlier this month.
- The doubles pairing of Andrade/Simhambhatla put up the best fight against Christopher Newport today.
