SWEET BRIAR, Va. – Sweet Briar tennis (18-3, 8-1 ODAC) earned its sixth-straight 9-0 victory with a win over Mary Baldwin today at the Van Der Meer Tennis Center
The Vixens took a 2-0 lead into singles play after the pairings of Alfaro/Wandling and Hurt/Jones won their doubles matches by scores of 8-0 and 8-5, respectively.
Junior
Nikhita Simhambhatla (Hyderabad, Telangana, India), sophomore
Isabela Guilarte (Barquisimeto, Venezuela) and senior
Alexia Alfaro (Laredo, Texas) all won their matches in straight sets.
Sophomore
Avery Jones (Union, Conn.) took down Summer Wendt at the No. 5 spot, 6-1, 6-0 to put Sweet Briar up 8-0. First-year
Lily Hurt (Charlottesville, Va.) helped the Vixens complete the sweep with an 8-7 (7-5) win over Liz Wine in the No. 4 singles position.
With only five players, the Fighting Squirrels forfeited one doubles and one singles match.
