SWEET BRIAR, Va. – Sweet Briar tennis (20-3, 9-1 ODAC) earned 9-0 victories against both Trinity (D.C.) and Shenandoah (9-4, 7-2 ODAC) as juniors
Ruth de Souza (Marilia, Brazil) and
Allison Wandling (Mechanicsville, Va.) set new program records.
The Vixens started the day with two 8-0 doubles victories by Alfaro/Jones and de Souza/Wrenn against the Tigers.
All five of the singles matches played by de Souza, Wandling, sophomore
Isabela Guilarte (Barquisimeto, Venezuela), sophomore
Avery Jones (Union, Conn.) and first-year
Lily Hurt (Charlottesville, Va.) were also won in straight sets.
With only five players, Trinity (D.C.) forfeited the third doubles and sixth singles match.
The pairing of Andrade/Kotany got the ball rolling against the Hornets with an 8-2 win over Cherwien/Hudak followed by 8-1 and 8-4 victories from Guilarte/Wandling and de Souza/Patino, respectively.
Wandling and Guilarte got their second sweeps of the day when they took down Lily Kimble and Allison Cherwien at the No. 4 and No. 5 spots.
Third to finish in singles play was de Souza, who captured a 6-3, 6-2 victory over Natalia Garcia-Molina at the No. 1 slot. Senior
Alexia Alfaro (Laredo, Texas) continued her undefeated season with a win over Kelly Hudak, 6-0, 6-2 while
Sofia Andrade (Latacunga, Ecuador) reigned victorious over Ariella Stepleman by a score of 7-5, 6-2.
Rounding out the sweep for the Vixens was first-year
Ana Patino (Medellín, Colombia) who earned a hard-fought 6-4, 3-6, 1-0 (10-8) win over Jahveesha Combs at the No. 2 singles position.
