SWEET BRIAR, Va. – Sweet Briar lacrosse (5-6, 2-3 CSAC) was bested by the Notre Dame (Md.) Gators (6-5, 4-1) today by a score of 18-5 in the team's last conference game at Thayer Field.
The Vixens fell behind early in the match, being held scoreless until sophomore
Sarah Southard (Culpeper, Va.) brought the score to 6-1 with 12:30 remaining in the first half.
Fellow sophomore
Brynna Hughes (Richmond, Va.) would score her second of the season, and Sweet Briar's second of the game, off a pass from first-year
Trista Cleaves (Millville, N.J.) for an 8-2 score going into halftime.
The Gators still had all the momentum in the second-half play, starting with a four-goal scoring run. Junior
Zerah Chase (Virginia Beach, Va.) scored the Vixens' lone third-quarter goal with five minutes remaining to put the game at 12-3.
With time winding down in the fourth, the team started to change the momentum with goals from first-year
Valen Foster (Bushwood, Md.) and Chase to close out play, bringing the game to its 18-5 close.
Sophomore
Jamison Tarver (Kingwood, Texas) once again led the team with four caused turnovers while junior
Kaylah Bailey (Virginia Beach, Va.) won three draw controls.
Highlights
- Sophomore goalkeeper Kat Navarro (Carlsbad, Va.) recorded nine saves while also picking up three ground balls.
- Both Foster and Hughes shot totaled a 50% shooting percentage with one goal on their two shots on goal in the game.
