SWEET BRIAR, Va. – The Sweet Briar field hockey team will open the season this week with three games spread out over Thursday, Sept. 1, Saturday, Sept. 3 and Sunday, Sept. 4.
The Vixens will take on Wilson in the first of two matches against the Phoenix this season in Chambersburg, Pa. at 5 p.m. on Sept. 1 before hosting the Goucher Gophers at Amherst County High School on Sept. 3 at 2 p.m.
The three-game week will wrap on Sunday in Lexington, Va. with action against the Washington and Lee Generals at 3 p.m.
Sweet Briar brings back 18 returners from last season, including reigning Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) and Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Rookie of the Year
Brynna Hughes (Richmond, Va.). The incoming class sees four new defensive and four new offensive players added to the program.

- Sweet Briar will face off against Goucher for the first time since 2014.
- Also highlighting the Vixens' returning players are All-CSAC honorees Jolin Daughety (Williamsburg, Va.), Ingrid Kalwitz Blanco (Antofagasta, Chile), Avery Jones (Union, Conn.), Lara Jost (Würzburg, Germany), Colleen Goodly (Yorktown, Va.) and Kailey McCarthy (Atkinson, N.H.).
- The team was picked fourth in the CSAC preseason poll, two spots behind Wilson.
