Field Hockey Drops Match to Bridgewater

BRIDGEWATER, Va. – Sweet Briar field hockey (1-4, 0-0 CSAC) dropped its match to the Bridgewater College Eagles (1-3, 0-0 ODAC) today by a score of 3-1.

The Eagles struck first after a scoreless quarter which saw only three total shots from both teams, finding the back of the net a little over two minutes into play in the second.

Sophomore Jolin Daughety (Williamsburg, Va.) would tie the match up at one with her first goal of the season at the 38-minute mark in the third.

The Vixens held strong defensively for the next ten minutes before Bridgewater broke through with the go-ahead goal. An additional tally by the Eagles of a penalty corner play with less than three minutes left would bring the match to its eventual 3-1 close.

"It was a tough game. We made a lot of adjustments and I'm really proud of our second half efforts," remarked Head Coach Hannah Lott. "[The game] included a great connections and a beautiful goal [by Daughety] which was an exact replica of last year's overtime win".

Highlights
  • Junior Brynna Hughes (Richmond, Va.) recorded the assist on Daughety's goal.
  • Daughety and junior Avery Jones (Union, Conn.) led the team with two shots during the game.
  • Sophomore Kailey McCarthy (Atkinson, N.H.) recorded a defensive save, the first of her career.
