Field Hockey Takes Down Transylvania

AMHERST, Va. – Sweet Briar field hockey (2-4, 0-0 CSAC) took down the Transylvania Pioneers (3-2, 0-0 SAA) today by a score of 1-0.
 
Scoreless through almost the first 45 minutes, the Vixens registered 10 shots during the first three-quarters of play. With seconds on the clock in the third, senior Colleen Goodly (Yorktown, Va.) got Sweet Briar on the board off a rebound following a penalty corner.
 
Despite numerous penalty corner chances for both teams, the Vixens outshot the Pioneers 3-1 in the fourth to ensure the shutout and the 1-0 victory.
 
Highlights
  • Goodly's goal was her first of the season.
  • Sophomore goalkeeper Ashley Maggiora (Hollister, Calif.) registered two saves.
  • Junior Avery Jones (Union, Conn.) led the team offensively with six shots and three shots on goal.
What's Next
The Vixens will play their first conference match of the season against Keystone on Saturday, Sept. 24.
