FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – Sweet Briar tennis earned its second-ever draw victory at the ITA Regional Championship as the doubles team of Caro/Simhambhatla won both their matches to earn a 3-0 record.
Competing in the Blue D bracket, the pairing took down Carter/Eze (Salisbury) and Igoni/Sterner (Saint Mary's (Md.)) by scores of 8-3 and 8-0, respectively, to leave the tournament undefeated.
Both Andrade/Patino and de Souza/Wandling fell in the Round of 16 in the Championship draw, while A. Guilarte/I. Guilarte suffered a loss to Malinowski/Untermeyer (SIT) in the Championship draw consolation Round of 16 to close out doubles play for the Vixens.
In singles play, senior
Ruth de Souza (Marilia, Brazil) advanced to the quarterfinals of the championship bracket with a 6-3, 0-6, 6-4 victory over Lauren Long (W&L) before falling to Sarah Yang or Carnegie Mellon who finished last season ranked No. 13 in the nation.
Junior
Isabela Guilarte (Barquisimeto, Venezuela) competed in the final of the Blue B bracket, while senior
Allison Wandling (Mechanicsville, Va.) won her Round of 16 consolation match over Jenna Harrison (F&M) by retirement to advance to play tomorrow.
