AMHERST, Va. – Sweet Briar field hockey (2-6, 0-1 CSAC) was overpowered by the Roanoke Maroons (6-2, 0-0 ODAC) tonight, falling by a score of 2-0.
A close contest early on, the Maroons got on the board at the 13:25 mark with a successful penalty corner opportunity.
A scoreless second quarter which saw sophomore goalkeeper
Ashley Maggiora (Hollister, Calif.) make three saves helped keep the game at 1-0 entering the half.
An early third-quarter goal from Roanoke to go up by two proved to be too much of a deficit for the Vixens to overcome, despite quadrupling their shot total in the second half of play.
A four-save quarter from Maggiora helped keep the final score at 2-0.
Highlights
- Maggiora recorded 10 total saves.
- Sophomore Jolin Daughety (Williamsburg, Va.) led Sweet Briar in shots with two, followed by senior Colleen Goodly (Yorktown, Va.) and junior Avery Jones (Union, Conn.) with one each.
What's Next
The Vixens will continue their homestand this weekend with contests scheduled against Bryn Athyn and Ferrum on Oct. 1 and Oct. 2, respectively.
