AMHERST, Va. – Sweet Briar field hockey (1-3, 0-0 CSAC) fell to the Virginia Wesleyan Marlins (1-3, 0-0 ODAC) 2-1 in a thrilling 2OT tonight at Amherst County High School.
While the Vixens dominated the first half of play, the match remained scoreless through the first three quarters.
Sweet Briar took the 1-0 lead 41 minutes into the game off of first-year
Carlina Christy's (Denver, Pa.) first-ever collegiate goal. Christy beat the Marlins goalkeeper left side off a pass from fellow first-year
Jenna Prevet (Nesconset, N.Y.) who had subbed into the game only minutes earlier.
With a little over five minutes left to play, Virginia Wesleyan tied things up at one on a breakaway leading to overtime.
The first overtime went scoreless despite the Vixens' offensive push with six shots during the 10 minutes.
At the 79:12 mark of the game, Stephanie Hoke scored her second of the game to give the Marlins the 2-1 2OT victory.
"[It was a] heartbreaker tonight," said Head Coach
