SWEET BRIAR, Va. – The Sweet Briar College field hockey team (5-5, 1-1 ODAC) dropped a closely contested game to the Washington and Lee University Generals (5-4, 2-0 ODAC) tonight at Thayer Field.
Junior goalkeeper
Ashley Maggiora (Hollister, Calif.) played a stellar first quarter; saving all six shots on goal from the Generals.
The two teams continued to be even-paced in the second quarter and the game entered halftime deadlocked at zero.
Washington and Lee broke the tie at the 37:06 mark with a tip from Maddy Duggleby off a shot from Betty Boatwright.
An additional tally from the visitors with less than eight minutes remaining would give them the 2-0 victory.
Highlights
- Maggiora recorded 12 saves in goal, a new season high.
- Sophomore Jenna Prevet (Nesconset, N.Y.) earned her fifth defensive save of the season in the fourth quarter.
- Neither Sweet Briar nor Washington and Lee have won a matchup by two or fewer goals since the Vixens took down the Generals 3-2 in 2001.
