EWING, N.J. – The Sweet Briar College tennis team (0-1, 0-0 ODAC) dropped the first match of the dual season to No. 30 TCNJ (1-0, 0-0 NJAC) by a score of 5-4.
The Lions took the early lead winning all doubles matches to go head 3-0.
Sweet Briar mounted a comeback in singles play with four victories, but ended up just short of TCNJ's five match total.
Sophomore
Ana Patino (Medellín, Colombia) took down Aira Abalos in straight sets, 6-4, 6-3 at the second singles position. Junior
Isabela Guilarte (Barquisimeto, Venezuela) also saw a straight-set victory by scores of 6-4, 6-4 at the No. 6 slot.
Senior
Allison Wandling earned a 7-6(7-5), 6-1 victory over Alexa Vasile at No. 3 singles, while senior
Sofia Andrade (Latacunga, Ecuador) captured the win at the fifth singles position thanks to a 6-4, 2-6, 1-0(10-4) victory over Chase Eisenberg.
Senior
Nikhita Simhambhatla put up a good fight against Anusha Rangu, but eventually fell by scores of 4-6, 6-4, 3-6 at No. 4. Fellow senior
Ruth de Souza saw action at the No. 1 singles spot, falling to Charlotte Roarty, 2-6, 2-6.
Highlights
- Wandling has won her last 17 regular season singles matches, while Guilarte holds a win streak of eight, Patino a win streak of seven and Andrade and Simhambhatla win streaks of five.
- TCNJ has not faced a regular season match as closely contested as tonight's since the Lions defeated then-No. 36 Haverford, 5-4, on April 23, 2022.
