CARY, N.C. – The Sweet Briar College lacrosse team (1-1, 0-0 CSAC) earned a dominant 15-2 victory over the William Peace Pacers (0-1, 0-0 USA South) on the road this afternoon.
First-year
Sofia Martinez-Tomatis (Santa Barbara, Calif.) opened up the scoring with her fifth goal of the season less than a minute in.
An additional goal from fellow first-year
Victoria Schofield (Towson, Md.) and free position tallies from Martinez-Tomatis and sophomore
Valen Foster (Bushwood, Md.) would put the Vixens up 4-1 at the end of the first.
Sweet Briar picked up the pace in the second quarter of play with seven additional tallies from the trio increasing its lead 10.
Back-to-back goals by Martinez-Tomatis to start the third quarter of play would put the team up 13-1 before the Pacers would add one more to their total. Martinez-Tomatis' seventh of the game and Foster's fourth would put the Vixens up 15-2 heading into the fourth.
A scoreless fourth quarters from both sides would bring the game to its eventual 15-2 close.
Defensively, junior goalkeeper
Kat Navarro (Carlsbad, Calif.) recorded six saves while fellow junior
Jamison Tarver (Kingwood, Texas) and sophomore
Kaitlyn Burns (Moneta, Va.) recorded five caused turnovers each.
Highlights
- Tarver also lead the team with eight ground balls and five draw controls.
- Sophomore Ashley Maggiora (Hollister, Calif.) recorded her first career point with an assist on Schofield's second goal of the game.
What's Next
Sweet Briar will take on both Brevard and Muskingum at home next week on March 6 and March 9, respectively.
