BRIDGEWATER, VA. – The Sweet Briar College softball team (7-13) was overcome by the Bridgewater College Eagles (8-5, 0-0 ODAC) today, falling in both games by a score of 11-1.
Game One
The Eagles got off to a hot start, scoring four runs in the first two innings for a 4-0 lead entering the top of the third.
First-year
Ilka-Marie Kuleba (Endy, N.C.) got the Vixens on the board with her first career home run to bring the score to 4-1.
However, the home team would answer back with three more runs to end the inning and four in the fourth to wrap the game up early with a score of 11-1 after five innings.
First-year
Brooke Patrick (Chesapeake, Va.) got the start at the mound for Sweet Briar and faced 13 batters through two innings. Patrick recorded one strikeout and forced five flyouts.
Coming into the game in relief, first-year
Anna Smith (Rocky Mount, Va.) also pitched in two innings and faced a total of 17 batters. Smith also recorded one strikeout while forcing one flyout and two groundouts.
At the plate, first-year
Kaylie Hudson (Lynchburg, Va.) led the team with two hits while fellow first-year
Melanie Rees (Partlow, Va.) went one-for-one with a double.
Game Two
Sweet Briar started the game off with the momentum after first-year
Lauren Jamerson (Buckingham, Va.) sent Hudson home with a single RBI for the 1-0 lead.
That lead would hold until the third inning when Bridgewater would tally 10 runs to take back the game.
An additional run by the Eagles in the fourth closed out the game at 11-1 following the conclusion of a scoreless fifth inning.
First-year
Grace Pisenti (Madison Heights, Va.) started at the mound in game two and saw 11 batters through two innings. Pisenti struck out one Eagle batter and forced three flyouts and a groundout.
Fellow first-year
Alyssa O'Quinn (Powhatan, Va.) came into the game during the third inning and also pitched in the fourth. O'Quinn faced 18 batters and gave up zero walks while striking out one and forcing three groundouts.
Both Hudson and Jamerson led the team with two hits in game two. Jamerson went two-for-two at the plate while Rees was again one-for-one.
Highlights
- Kuleba now joins Hudson as the only two Vixens to have hit a home run so far this season.
- First-year Kaydin Williams (Richlands, N.C.) recorded a 1.000 fielding percentage in today's doubleheader with five putouts on five chances and currently leads the team with a .977 fielding percentage.

The Vixens will travel to Randolph for doubleheader action on Tuesday, March 21.
