RUSTBURG, Va. – The No. 2-seed Sweet Briar NCEA team (9-2, 7-1 ECAC) earned its second-straight Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Championship title today after taking down the No. 1-seed University of Lynchburg Hornets (8-5, 5-1 ECAC) 6-3.
Competing at Lynchburg's home barn, both teams were deadlocked in a 2-2 tie following the conclusion of flat competition.
Junior
Emmy Longest (Hanover, Va.) and first-year
Wyette Felton (Canton, Ga.) earned the two points for Sweet Briar.
Longest achieved a three-point victory over Fallyn Belcastro after earning a 173 on Jakson. Felton defeated Emma Schweizer by 11 points with a 170 on Buddy.
The team pulled away during the fences portion of the meet, earning four out of a possible five points.
Longest and Felton recorded scores of 152 and 175, respectively, for their second points of the day.
Sophomore
Isabelle Mesiarik (Pottstown, Pa.) recorded a 167 on Eddie while first-year
Naomi Dachis (Franklin Lakes, N.J.) helped the Vixens reach their six-point total with a 162 on Ozzy.
Highlights
- Felton was named Most Outstanding Performer (MOP) for her performance in fences competition.
- Sweet Briar continues to be unmatched in ECAC Championship competition after winning both meets last year to claim the inaugural title.
- The Vixens now lead the season series against the Hornets, 2-1.
