NCEA Sees Four Earn All-America Honors; Six Earn All-Academic Honors

WACO, Texas – The Sweet Briar College NCEA team landed four student-athletes on the 2022-23 Ariat All-America Team and six on the APHA NCEA All-Academic Team, the National Collegiate Equestrian Association (NCEA) announced yesterday and today.
 
Sophomore Katherine Atherton (Montpelier, Va.) was named Second Team Fences while first-year Naomi Dachis (Franklin Lakes, N.J.) earned Honorable Mention honors.
 
Atherton was also named Honorable Mention in flat along with first-year Wyette Felton (Canton, Ga.) senior Kacie Freeburg (Orlando, Fla.).
 
To be eligible for the All-America team, athletes must have a 67% or higher winning percentage, competed in a minimum of 67% of the team's meets and have an adjusted NRS score of 85 for flat and 90 for fences.
 
Atherton held a 77.78 winning percentage and an adjusted NRS of 93.8 in fences competition while Dachis earned a 71.43% winning percentage and an adjusted NRS of 93.2.
 
On the flat, Atherton's winning percentage was 67% with an adjusted NRS of 87.1. Felton earned a winning percentage of 80%.
 
In her final season at Sweet Briar, Freeburg totaled an adjusted NRS of 88.8 and a winning percentage of 75% to be named Honorable Mention.
 
This marks the second All-America honors for Atherton and Freeburg who were both named to the 2021-22 All-America Honorable Mention Flat team last year.
 
The Vixens also saw three student-athletes named to the APHA NCEA All-Academic First Team. Junior Emmy Longest and sophomore Isabelle Mesiarik (Pottstown, Pa.) and Ella Peterson (Ashland, Va.) earned accolades by competing in a minimum of 70 percent of the team's meets and earning a cumulative GPA of at least a 3.5.

Atherton picked up additional honors from NCEA as she was named to the All-Academic Second Team. The Virginia native met the criteria of competing in at least 60 percent of Sweet Briar's meets while also earning a cumulative GPA of at least a 3.25.
 
Additionally, sophomores Anna Grace Ross (Grayson, Ga.) and McClain Suelthaus (St. Louis, Mo.) were named to the NCEA Academic Honor Roll for holding at least a 3.25 GPA.
