HILTON HEAD, S.C. – The Sweet Briar College tennis team (3-2, 2-0 ODAC) has earned redemption against the Berry Vikings (1-2, 0-0 SAA) after taking a 6-2 victory tonight in Hilton Head.
The Vixens came out with the 2-1 lead after the conclusion of doubles. The pairing of Andrade/Patino took down Craig/S. Manning, 8-1, at the second doubles position while Caro/Simhambhatla defeated Thornton/Walton, 8-4, at the third doubles slot.
In singles play, both senior
Sofia Andrade (Latacunga, Ecuador) and junior
Isabela Guilarte (Barquisimeto, Venezuela) played one set where they did not concede a single game. Andrade earned a 6-0, 7-5 win over Sakura Manning at the No. 5 spot while I. Guilarte earned a 6-0, 4-6, 10-5 victory over Angelle Thornton at the No. 6 position.
Fellow senior
Kate Kotany (Erd, Hungary) took down Lacey Craig 6-3, 6-4 at the No. 4 position. Senior
Allison Wandling (Mechanicsville, Va.) clinched the match for Sweet Briar with a 6-4, 6-1 win over Olivia Walton at the No. 3 flight.
Despite the match going unfinished, senior
Ruth de Souza (Marilia Brazil) was leading Lauren Masteller at No. 1 singles, 7-6(7-5), 4-2.
Highlights
- Tonight's match marks the first time that Sweet Briar has earned singles victories against Berry.
- Andrade has the longest singles win-streak on the team with four while the doubles team of Caro/Simhambhatla have won the last five matches they've played together.
