HILTON HEAD, S.C. – The Sweet Briar College tennis team (4-2) won its fourth-straight match today after taking down the Allegheny Gators (14-2) by a perfect score of 9-0.
The Vixens started hot in doubles play with the duo of Caro/Simhambhatla handily earning a win over Drollas/McIntosh, 8-0. Andrade/Patino made quick work of Riley/Kidd in their doubles match as well with an 8-2 victory.
At the No. 1 position, de Souza/Wandling came away with the win over Legrand/Swan by a score of 8-5.
Continuing that momentum into singles play, junior
Isabela Guilarte (Barquisimeto, Venezuela) did not concede a single game to Sophia Mita in her 6-0, 6-0 victory. Senior
Ruth de Souza (Marilia, Brazil) also came out perfect at the No. 1 singles slot with a 6-0, 6-0 win over Ella Swan.
Fellow senior
Sofia Andrade (Latacunga, Ecuador) took the first 6-1 from Noelle Kidd before keeping her off the scoresheet in the second set with a 6-0 win.
Seniors
Nikhita Simhambhatla (Hyderabad, Telangana, India) and
Kate Kotany (Erd, Hungary) also earned straight-set victories with Simhambhatla taking down Sabrina Rodrigues, 6-1, 6-2, at the No. 3 spot and Kotany defeating Maria Lounder, 6-3, 6-1, at the No. 4 spot.
Senior
Allison Wandling (Mechanicsville, Va.) complete the sweep for Sweet Briar with a 6-2, 6-4 win over Jean-Arlette Legrand at the No. 1 flight.
Highlights
- I. Guilarte has won dual singles matches by scores of 6-0, 6-0 a total of 13 times during her career, while de Souza has notched six sweeping victories.
- This marks the Vixens' second 9-0 win of the season after defeating Lynchburg on March 1.
