LEXINGTON, Va. – The Sweet Briar College tennis team (14-7, 8-1 ODAC) battled to a 7-2 loss against the No. 22 Washington and Lee University Generals (14-4, 10-0 ODAC) on their home courts today.
The pairing of Andrade/Patino earned the lone doubles victory for Sweet Briar today. They took down the duo of Carlton/Koziol, 8-7 (7-4), at the No. 2 flight for the win.
At the No. 1 spot, the team of de Souza/Wandling also fought hard; falling to the No. 6 regionally-ranked pairing of Long/Moss in a tiebreak, 7-8 (4-7).
In singles play, junior
Isabela Guilarte (Barquisimeto, Venezuela) took down Margaret Carlton at the No. 5 slot by scores of 7-6 (7-5), 2-6, 1-0 (10-5).
Senior
Ruth de Souza (Marilia, Brazil) also took her No. 1 singles match to three sets after earning a 6-4 victory in the first set of play. de Souza would come up short against No. 2 regionally-ranked Lauren Long in the final two sets by scores of 5-7, 0-1 (3-10).
Highlights
- Guilarte has now won three matches so far this season against opponents from nationally-ranked teams.
- Andrade/Patino have won their last three matches together.
What's Next
The Vixens will welcome both Trinity (D.C.) and Averett to the Van Der Meer Tennis Center on Saturday, April 22 for senior day.
