SWEET BRIAR, Va. – The Sweet Briar College lacrosse team (1-8, 0-3) made history today when it competed in the first-ever outdoor game under the lights at Sweet Briar against the Eastern Mennonite University Royals (3-9).
The Vixens would ultimately fall to the Royals by a score of 20-4.
First-year
Sofia Martinez-Tomatis (Santa Barbara, Calif.) kicked off the scoring with a goal less than two minutes in to give the team the 1-0 lead.
However, EMU would answer back with five goals of their own to go ahead in the game.
Sophomore
Valen Foster (Bushwood, Md.) beat the Royals goaltender off a feed from Martinez-Tomatis to cut the lead to three with nearly nine minutes remaining in the first quarter of play.
The visiting team would tally the next eight goals before a score by Foster would bring the game to 13-3 at the half.
It was a low-scoring affair in the third quarter with only three tallies from EMU. Four additional goals for the Royals and Martinez-Tomatis' second of the game would bring action to its 20-4 close.
Goalkeeper
Kat Navarro (Carlsbad, Calif.) recorded 12 saves and led the team with four ground balls.
Both first-year
Ashley Prevet (Nesconset, N.Y.) and junior Renée Taylor (York, Pa.) totaled two caused turnovers while Martinez-Tomatis and Foster won three draw controls.
Highlights
