SPRINGFIELD, Ohio – The Sweet Briar College field hockey team (2-2, 0-0 ODAC) came up short against the Wittenberg University Tigers (4-1, 0-0 NCAC) on the road today by a score of 2-1.
The Vixens got on the board first less than 10 minutes into the first quarter off an ensuing penalty corner. Junior
Kailey McCarthy (Atkinson, N.H.) found fellow junior
Jolin Daughety (Williamsburg, Va.) who put the ball into the back of the net for the 1-0 lead.
The Tigers would tie things up less only three minutes later to bring the game tied at one entering the second quarter of play.
The home team would convert on a penalty shot at the 16:46 minute mark to take the 2-1 lead at halftime.
In the third quarter, junior goalkeeper
Ashley Maggiora (Hollister, California) would total three saves while a defensive save by sophomore
Jenna Prevet (Nesconset, N.Y.) helped keep the Tigers' lead to just one goal.
Despite another good chance for senior
Avery Jones (Union, Conn.) on another penalty corner play, the Vixens would fail to find the back of the net in the fourth quarter which brought the game to its 2-1 conclusion.
Highlights
- Maggiora totaled 11 saves in goal this afternoon.
- McCarthy led the team in shots while her and Daughety equaled in shots on goal totals.
- Daughety is now tied for the team-lead in goals with Jones at three.

The Vixens will return home for back-to-back games against Wooster and Kenyon on Sept. 16 and Sept. 17, respectively.
