SWEET BRIAR, Va. – The Sweet Briar College field hockey team (4-4, 0-0 ODAC) closed out non-conference play with a win over the Meredith College Avenging Angels (1-6, 0-0 USA South) today, 2-1.
The Avenging Angels got on the board first after converting on an ensuing penalty corner play for the 1-0 lead.
However, the Vixens would answer in the second quarter with a goal from first-year
Emmi Burdine (Huntington Beach, Calif.) at the 26:52 mark to tie things up entering halftime.
Sweet Briar would tally a goal off a penalty corner themselves in the third quarter, thanks to junior
Abby Lindsey (Providence Forge, Va.), to take a one-goal lead.
A scoreless fourth quarter would bring the game to its 2-1 close.

Ashley Maggiora (Hollister, Calif.) recorded three saves in goal.

- Sophomore Sophia Bovino (Pittsburgh, Pa.) earned the assist on Lindsey's goal.
- Sweet Briar now leads the all-time series against Meredith, 3-0.
