SWEET BRIAR, Va. – The Sweet Briar College field hockey team (3-5, 0-1 ODAC) opened up Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) play this evening at Thayer Field; falling to the Virginia Wesleyan University Marlins (9-1, 1-0 ODAC) by a score of 5-0.
Play between both teams was evenly matched through the first quarter of play as the score remained at zero until the Marlins broke through at the 14:05 mark.
The visitors then tacked on two additional goals within the first six minutes of action in the second quarter to take a 3-0 lead heading into halftime.
One goal in the final two-quarters of play gave Virginia Wesleyan the 5-0 victory after 60 minutes.
Highlights
- Both senior Ashley Maggiora (Hollister, Calif.) and first-year Reiyn Hart (Bridgton Maine) saw action in goal, combining for five saves.
- Sophomore Emmi Burdine (Huntington Beach, Calif.) led the team in shots.

The Vixens will host Randolph-Macon and Meredith on Saturday and Sunday, respectively.
