VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – The Sweet Briar College soccer team (3-6-0, 0-4-0 ODAC) fell to the Virginia Wesleyan University Marlins (3-4-3, 3-1-0 ODAC) this afternoon by a score of 9-1 in the team's second-straight Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) on the road.
The Marlins got off to a strong start, scoring three goals in the first 15 minutes of action.
An additional goal at the 40:54 mark gave the home team a four-goal advantage heading into halftime.
Virginia Wesleyan opened up scoring in the second half as well, however, the Vixens got on the board at the 70:47 mark of the game thanks to sophomore
Alexis Diaz (Connelly Springs, N.C.). The North Carolina native found the back of the net off a set corner kick play kicked off by senior
Jillian Lewis (Ellicott City, Md.).
Four more goals by the Marlins in the final 20 minutes of action brought the game to its 9-1 close.
Highlights
- Today's goal marks the first that Sweet Briar has scored on Virginia Wesleyan since 2012.
- Senior goalkeeper Trista Cleaves (Millville, N.J.) recorded 14 saves.
