SWEET BRIAR, Va. – The No. 1 single-discipline Sweet Briar College NCEA team (2-0, 1-0 ODAC) opened up action at the Harriet Howell Rogers Riding Center today with a 7-3 victory over the No. 2 single-discipline College of Charleston Cougars (2-1).
The Vixens got ahead of the Cougars, 3-2, following the completion of the fences portion of the meet. Senior
Isabelle Mesiarik (Pottstown, Pa.), junior
Maggie Booth (Marietta, Ga.) and first-year
Abigail Schreiner (Villa Rica, Ga.) all earned points for the team.
Mesiarik secured a five-point margin of victory over Olivia Lonneman with an 80 on Jetson while Booth totaled a career-high 87 on Ino for a 19-point win against Hailey Pendl.
Schreiner's score of 81 against Caroline Berg's score of 30 secured the third point for Sweet Briar.
On the flat, Mesiarik got things started with an 83 to earn a 14-point win against Camilla Murray on Stan. Booth also earned her second point of the day thanks to an 80 on Mydas against Berg's 69.
Senior
Katherine Atherton (Montpelier, Va.) remains undefeated in flat competition along with Booth, Mesiarik and fellow senior
Ella Peterson (Ashland, Va.) after totaling a 73 on Trey. Peterson defeated Kathryn McCarthy with a score of 68 on Jakson to secure the 7-3 victory.
Booth was crowned Most Outstanding Performer (MOP) over fences for the first time in her career while Mesiarik earned her first career MOP title on the flat.
