Field Hockey Falls to No. 13 Lynchburg

LYNCHBURG, Va. – The Sweet Briar College field hockey team (5-10, 1-6 ODAC) fell to the No. 13 Lynchburg University Hornets (13-2, 6-0 ODAC) on the road this evening by a score of 9-1.
 
The Hornets kicked off scoring with a goal at the 6:41 mark before tacking on two more to go up 3-0.
 
Sophomore Emmi Burdine (Huntington Beach, Calif.) tallied her fourth of the season to bring the score to 3-1 at the end of the first quarter.
 
Four more additional goals from Lynchburg in the second gave the home team the 7-1 lead entering halftime.
 
The Hornets added on goals in the third and fourth quarters to take the 9-1 victory.
 
Highlights
  • First-year Reiyn Hart (Bridgton, Maine) recorded a career-high 15 saves in her first career start.
  • Sweet Briar totaled four defensive saves with senior Kailey McCarthy (Atkinson, N.H.) earning two and fellow senior Lara Jost (Würzburg, Germany) and first-year Larkin Shire (Caroline County, Va.) each recording one.
