BUENA VISTA, Va. - The Sweet Briar College field hockey team (6-10, 1-6 ODAC) took the season sweep against the Southern Virginia University Knights (0-10) this evening with a 3-1 victory on the road.
Southern Virginia got the scoring started five minutes into the game, however, Sweet Briar answered back with a goal from sophomore
Gigi Hutman (Bordentown, N.J.) off a penalty corner play to tie things up at one heading into the second quarter.
Hutman tallied her second of the game at the 21:04 mark while fellow sophomore
Emmi Burdine (Huntington Beach, Calif.) brought the Vixens' lead to two with a goal only three minutes later.
Scoreless third and fourth quarters of play saw the game end with Sweet Briar taking home the 3-1 victory.
Highlights
- Senior Ashley Maggiora (Hollister, Calif.) spent all 60 minutes in goal.
- Tonight marks the second multi-goal game of Hutman's career.
