Indoor Track and Field Completes First Meet in School History

LYNCHBURG, Va. – The Sweet Bria College indoor track and field team kicked off its first season of competition today with the Liberty Kick Off.

First-year Veronica Barney (Leesburg, Va.) was the first Vixen in action as she completed the 60-meter dash in 9.27.

Four members of the team competed in the 200-meter dash as first-year Electra Mcpherson (Madison Heights, Va.) led the way in the 60th with her time of 30.58. Barney, senior Julianna McIntyre (Englewood, Fla.) and first-year Madison Thompson (Lynchburg, Va.) all finished right after one another with times of 31.41, 31.96 and 33.01, respectively.

In the 400-meter dash, senior Alia Peets (Devonshire, Bermuda) clocked in a time of 1:09.53 while first-year Mila Mutabdzija (Manhattan Beach, Calif.) crossed the finish line at the 1:21.34 mark.

Sophomore Mia Viccora (Fairfax, Va.) completed the 800-meter run in 2:54.56 to place 15th while Peets’s time of 2:59.94 put her in 17th.

Rounding out track action for Sweet Briar were junior Carolina Wilson's (Hedgesville, W. Va.) and senior Angelyn Wiggins’s (Churchville, Md.) performances in the 3000-meter run. Wilson placed 33rd with a time of 12:28.22 while Wiggins was not far behind her in 36th with a time of 12:39.71.

Highlights

  • Wilson and Wiggins nabbed the team’s best finishes of the day as they placed 12th and 14th, respectively, in the one-mile run.
  • First-year Michaela Carr (Springfield, Va.) was the lone field athlete as she placed 36th in the shot put with her throw of 5.01 meters.
It was a good day! We were up against a ton of Division I competition and they objectively ran some great times all things considered. Mia split a great 800 PB from last year, Angelyn and Carolina were a sold distance duo in the mile 3K and Electra was fantastic in the 200. They're all in good positions for a season opener. We have lots to look forward too in January!
