Tennis Splits Second Day of Competition in Florida

ORLANDO, Fla. – The Sweet Briar College tennis team (7-1, 2-0 ODAC) split day two of competition in Florida as the team fell to the Hope College Flying Dutch (6-1, 0-0 MIAA) 3-6 in the morning before taking down the Connecticut College Camels (3-4, 0-2 NESCAC) 5-3 this evening.
 
In the first match of the day the Vixens fell behind the Flying Dutch in doubles play with the No. 3 pairing of Caracciolo/van Eekelen being the lone point getter in their 8-4 victory over Walker/Wei.
 
In singles play, Sweet Briar's two points came from junior Ana Patino (Medellín, Colombia) at the No. 2 spot and first-year Isadora Lima (Natal, Brazil) in the No. 6 position who both won hard-fought three-set matches.
 
Patino defeated Sullivan Moran, 1-6, 6-2, 1-0 (10-6), while Lima earned a 7-6, 6-1, 1-6 (10-7) victory over Hope Rhoades.
 
In the night match, the Vixens went out to an early lead as singles play took place before doubles action.
 
Senior Isabela Guilarte (Barquisimeto, Venezuela) secured a three-set, 5-7, 6-2, 1-0 (10-4), win over Lily Kerachsky at the No. 2 spot while her sister, sophomore Alex Guilarte (Barquisimeto, Venezuela) took down Courtney Banks in the No. 3 match by scores of 6-3, 3-6, 1-0 (12-10).
 
Lima got her second singles win of the day with another three-set win over Ella Griffiths again at the No. 6 position but by scores of 5-7, 6-2, 1-0 (10-6) this time.
 
The No.1 doubles duo of A. Guilarte/Patino clinched the victory for Sweet Briar with an 8-6 win over Banks/Kowalska.
 
The fifth and final point of the net was earned by Caracciolo/van Eekelen who got the 8-4 take down of Bhat/O'Hara.
 
Highlights
  • The duo of Caracciolo/van Eekelen are undefeated so far this season with a 3-0 record.
  • Lima has yet to drop a singles match this dual season.

The Vixens will wrap up spring action against Franklin & Marshall tomorrow.
