SWEET BRIAR, Va. – The Sweet Briar College tennis team (10-1, 2-0 ODAC) battled to a 5-4 victory today against the Centre College Colonels (4-5, 0-1 SAA) this evening at the Van Der Meer Tennis Center.
The Vixens fell behind in doubles play, as the duo of Caracciolo/van Eekelen were the only victorious pairing thanks to an 8-4 win at the No. 3 spot.
However, Sweet Briar mounted a comeback in singles play starting with first-year
Isadora Lima's (Natal, Brazil) 6-1, 6-2 take down of Sophie Maddux at No. 6 singles which tied the match up at two.
The Colonels would pull ahead 3-2 with the next singles victory, but a 6-3, 6-3 win at No. 2 by senior
Isabela Guilarte (Barquisimeto, Venezuela) over Grace Williams evened things up once again.
A hard-fought 7-6 (7-5), 6-4 win by
Maria Caro (Bogota, Colombia) at the No. 4 position over Kennedy Herring but the home team ahead for the first time in the match.
Junior
Ana Patino's (Medellín, Colombia) 7-5, 7-6 (7-4) victory against Carlie Mitchell in the No. 1 singles match would solidify the eventual 5-4 win for the Vixens.
