GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Sweet Briar College tennis team (11-1, 3-0 ODAC) breezed past the Guilford College Quakers (5-5, 2-2 ODAC) this afternoon with a 9-0 victory.
The Vixens got the afternoon started with a No. 3 doubles victory at the hands of Caracciolo/van Eekelen. The duo took down Lupo/Reed by a score of 8-1 while the No. 2 pairing of Caro/I. Guilarte saw an 8-2 win over Nhouyvanisvong/Wilson.
In the No. 1 doubles match, A. Guilarte/Patino earned an 8-3 take down of Belnap/Tate to extend Sweet Briar's lead to 3-0 heading into singles play.
Both first-years
Juli Caracciolo (Los Cardales, Argentina) and
Isadora Lima (Natal, Brazil) were perfect in their matches with 6-0, 6-0 wins at No. 5 and No. 6 singles, respectively.
Juniors
Maria Caro (Bogota, Colombia) and
Ana Patino (Medellín, Colombia) also blanked their opponents in the first set with Caro defeating Molly Wilson, 6-0, 6-2, at No. 4 while Patino earned a 6-0, 6-1 win over J. Nhouyvanisvong at No. 2.
Sophomore
Alex Guilarte (Barquisimeto, Venezuela) earned a No. 3 singles win over Kancie Tate by set scores of 6-1, 6-2 while her sister senior
Isabela Guilarte (Barquisimeto, Venezuela) got the No. 1 singles victory over Ashley Belnap by scores of 6-3, 6-1 to help the Vixens remain perfect.
Highlights
- Lima remains undefeated in singles play during the dual season with an 8-0 record.
- Sweet Briar has now defeated Guilford by a score of 9-0 in the last four matchups.
